About Mahlatsi
Kamohelo Mahlatsi is a South African photographer whose work explores representation, aestheticism, identity, and the reclamation of visual narratives. Working mostly through staged and performative photography, his work creates space for beauty, intimacy, and self definition.
In October 2019, Mahlatsi won first place at the Excellence in Education Awards by ThinkAhead in the #mySA Photography category. In 2020, he was shortlisted by the Africa Photo Awards and took part in their group exhibition in Rosebank, South Africa.In 2021, he was part of a group exhibition by Oath Magazine in Cape Town and licensed one of his images to French textbook publishing company Nathan Publishers for academic use in France.
In 2022, Mahlatsi was part of FNB Art Joburg’s #OpenCity group exhibition in Braamfontein and was shortlisted by Nike, Patta, and MamaKaShaka as part of The Next Wave programme. In 2026, he is set to participate in the Nicéphore International Photography Biennale in France.
He was commissioned to shoot Steve Harvey for his Family Feud show and In 2025 he did a shoot using French wine cocktail brand Ice Tropez for his images of two elderly ladies who posed with the drink which went viral gaining millions of immpressions across social media which led to a campaign with the brand. His work and career have been featured by several South African media outlets, including SABC 2’s Morning Live, Daily Sun, Good Things Guy, Germiston City News, and CAPS Radio.
